ENGLISH SUMMARY

More than ten years ago, running a shoe retail business, I hit a stubborn problem. Almost all our stock sat in physical stores, and when I started on e-commerce around 2014 and 2015, I couldn't allocate a separate batch of goods for online. The idea was to use the stores as the inventory for online orders, but how to keep the website, the stores and inventory synchronous? For years I discussed this with my good friend Adrian Oh of Websharper. In theory it made sense; in practice there were traps everywhere: overselling, delays, inaccurate stock, unstable systems, human error. We never found a solution that ran smoothly and was affordable. Then around 2017 and 2018 my retail business collapsed, and the problem was set aside. A few days ago my wife saw a piece of clothing at ZARA that wasn't in her size, so she ordered it online. When I went with her to collect the parcel, I noticed it had been shipped from the ZARA store in Sunway Pyramid. What we once thought nearly impossible is now an everyday action nobody even talks about: ZARA's online orders draw directly on store inventory, in real time. We weren't wrong back then; the tools and infrastructure just weren't ready. AI has only just begun. What feels complex and distant today may look like an ordinary default in ten years. The key is recognising the moment when it arrives.

PET-Sunway Pyramid, Petaling Jaya, Selangor

而且是 real-time synchronous。
