ENGLISH SUMMARY

In consumer startups people used to say: the market has validated it, I'll just copy it. That worked when traffic was cheap; whoever executed fastest got a share of the boom. Today traffic is expensive, users are picky and every lane is crowded, so followers have almost no chance. I saw a line from Chang Kaisi of Source Code Capital: in the past everyone crowded around copying an existing path, some faster and some slower, but today good consumer companies create a category of their own and blaze their own trail; the top student scores 100 because 100 is the maximum, the second scores 60 because 60 is all it can manage, and pioneers and followers are fundamentally different. Starting a company works the same way. The pioneer defines the race, and however hard followers try, they live in its shadow. Pop Mart dared to create the blind-box economy and locked in global IP early, leaving later players no road. For founders the lesson is simple. Don't dream of being the second version of some brand; that road doesn't go far. Differentiation is a brand's lifeline, not a clever trick but a systematic understanding and moat. Better to be small and first than big and mediocre. Followers may win for a while, but those who survive and go far are always the pioneers.

  • 别幻想做第二个某某品牌,那条路走不远;
  • 差异化才是品牌的命门,不是小聪明,而是系统性的认知与护城河;
