English summary available ↓
Lately many founder friends have told me they want to give up, feel lost, or are stuck after failure. I'm going through it too, and I've been here before: a failed business, debts, and two court cases at once. Looking back, there was no secret move, just solving things one by one. More than ten years ago, after graduating in the UK, I was unemployed for six months and rejected more than a dozen times. At a London career fair, Maybank was hiring, and Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, then CEO, was asked how he became CEO. He joked that his favourite film was Ip Man, with its line 'I'll fight ten.' Then he got serious: no one can fight ten at once. If all ten come together, Ip Man loses. The real way is to beat one quickly, then the second, the third, until the tenth. Life is like that: the secret isn't solving every problem at once but solving them one at a time. Entrepreneurship is hard; nobody forces you into it, so it shouldn't be for other people's eyes. Adjusting your mindset won't make problems disappear. Hitting a target like one million in sales just brings the next problem. So fight them one by one, like Ip Man. The road has no finish line; it's a practice. Stop sometimes and ask why you started, because it's for your truest self.
Read full English version →
